We are still living in the midst of a global pandemic despite the recent reopening of many places around the world. While the pandemic still might not be over anytime soon, it affects people's lifestyles and everyday routines.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the lives of millions of people across the globe. From quarantine to stay-at-home orders to ever-changing public health guidelines, many people struggled to commit to their self-care routines as well as taking care of their overall health.

Secondary Research
According to TechCrunch, mobile usage remained at an all-time high throughout 2020. In Q3, App Annie consumers downloaded 33 billion new apps and spent $28 billion on new apps globally. Visual Capitalist also reported a 46% increase in downloads globally from Q1 to Q2. We can confirm people were actively using their mobile devices to download new apps during the pandemic.
Fitbit reported a 38% decline in average step counts worldwide which means people were less active during the pandemic. A recent online global survey reported that quarantine and stay-at-home orders dramatically increased lifestyle changes - primarily unhealthy lifestyle changes. The same survey reported sedentary leisure activities increased by an average of 20-minutes per week. We understand there was an increase in sedentary and leisure activities and an overall decrease in reported physical activity.

Primary Research
Conducted a preliminary screener survey to find out individuals who use health-related apps on their mobile devices and how the pandemic affected their self-care routines.
Interviewed five participants to find out more about mobile app usage during the pandemic, specifically the usage of health apps. I wanted to understand whether there are consistent behaviors toward regular self-care routines and engagement in mobile apps during the pandemic.
I asked a series of questions to understand how people managed their self-care routines and personal health goals during the pandemic. Some key questions I asked interviewees were about any challenges they experienced and what kinds of mobile apps they use to help manage their routines.
Key Questions
1. Please briefly describe your current self-care routine?
2. How do you incorporate self-care related activities into your daily schedule (i.e. exercise, fitness, hiking, outdoors, meditation, yoga, diet, nutrition, sleep, stress, general/overall health)
3. Experience any challenges maintaining your self-care routine this year?
4. Use mobile apps to help manage your self-care routine during the pandemic?
5. What do you like in a health-related app?
